Are you considering abdominoplasty surgery in Perth, and want to know the real costs involved?
Dr Nathan Stewart is highly regarded in Perth for achieving great results with abdominoplasty surgery, commonly known as a “tummy tuck”, for post pregnancy and post weight loss.
Using specialised techniques learnt from his international and national plastic surgery training, Dr Stewart can achieve a flattened abdomen and reduce belly shape by removing excess skin, repairing separated abdominal muscles, and creating a new naval (bellybutton) in the correct anatomical position. Incisions will be made below the bikini and underwear line to reduce scar visibility. Contouring is performed via liposculpture to help create aesthetic shadows that enhance the appearance of the stomach wall.
Dr Stewart will provide you with all the costs associated with surgery at your initial consultation and is up front about his credentials and results. You can also take a look at the costs of common plastic surgery procedures listed on his website.

Yes – Abdominoplasty surgery is covered by Medicare (item number 30177 for post weight loss patients, and item number 30175 for post pregnancy patients) providing you meet the criteria.
For weight loss patients (item number 30177), a weight loss of at least 5 BMI points needs to be documented. For some people, this is a weight loss of approximately 15kg. Your weight will need to be stable for at least 6 months. Other criteria that are considered are skin rashes, infection, or irritation in abdominal skin folds. If you have excess skin that causes difficulty with everyday actives, then you may be eligible for this rebate. Medicare will provide a rebate which is approximately $781.50 to help subside your final cost.
For post pregnancy patients (item number 30175), you will need to be at least 12 months post pregnancy. If you have documented diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation) of 3cm or greater, that has not improved with physiotherapy or specialised exercise programs, you may be eligible for this rebate. Diastasis recti can be measured by ultrasound or other diagnoistic imaging. Abdominal muscle separation can cause discomfit, back pain, and urinary issues. Some women who have diastasis recti may also have a hernia due to the separation of their abdominal muscles. Medicare can provide a rebate which is approximately $769.20 to help subside your final cost.
Your private health insurance may further subsidise your costs, with the exact amount dependent on your health fund and level of cover. This information can be obtained by contacting your health fund directly and quoting item number 30177 for weight loss patients, and item number 30175 for post pregnancy patients.
